‘Weed, sex, and drugs’: UPenn students react to Harris’s election loss

‘We’re f—ed … and I’m heartbroken,’ nursing student says after Trump won

While some disappointed students feed their election sorrows by eating cookies and milk or playing with puppets, others are choosing harder and harsher responses.

At the University of Pennsylvania, one student upset by the election of former President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested marijuana to ease students’ disappointment.

“This is a rather sad election, and the only way to cure your sorrows is weed,” student Jesse Van Doren told The Daily Pennsylvanian. “Weed, sex, and drugs.”

At watch parties across campus, students “spoke about ways to cope with the stress as Trump won several battleground states, detailing drinking games as Harris lost or won a state because of the ‘stressful’ nature of the election,” according to the report:

Shortly after midnight, Nursing first year Michael Parella, who attended the Riepe watch party, told the DP that the results so far had completely contradicted his expectations for a Harris win.

“I have knocked on over 2,000 doors. I have done so much for the Kamala Harris campaign. I’ve called so many phones,” he said. “And we’re f**ked. We’re f**ked. We’re kind of screwed over, and I’m heartbroken, and I felt so confident.”

“I think just saying ‘we’re f**ked’ has summed up this entire night as a whole,” Parella added.

Another student, Leaf Ye, told the student newspaper she finds it hard to believe “that there are people who vote in a way that’s so inconceivably immoral and illogical to me.” Ye mentioned abortion was a key issue for her.

Trump is an alumnus of the Ivy League school. On Tuesday, the Republican candidate won Pennsylvania, a key swing state that supported current President Joe Biden, a Democrat, in the 2020 election.

Meanwhile, at Howard University, Harris’s alma mater, some melted into tears as they left her campaign rally, ABC News reports. The Democratic candidate was supposed to speak at the Washington, D.C. campus – but didn’t after her loss became clear, according to the report.

Other colleges are hosting events this week to help students cope with the “stress” of the election.

These include a “Legos Station” and “Milk and Cookies” at Georgetown University, and a hang out time with a puppet called “Sunshine” at Harvard Divinity School, The College Fix reported.
