Do you know a college guy who knows how to treat a lady? Then he needs to be recognized. And here’s the perfect way to do it – the Network of enlightened Women’s “Gentlemen Showcase” contest.
“We hear so much about the negative behavior on campus by young men, but there really are a lot of good gentlemen out there,” Karin Agness, founder and president of NeW, explains. “So what we are trying to do with the Gentlemen Showcase is identify those great men, honor them, and then encourage more of them.”
“We want to cultivate a community of more gentlemen out there on these college campuses who treat everybody with the respect that they deserve.”
NeW defines gentlemen with the following:
1. A man who treats others in a proper and polite manner.
2. A man who demonstrates respect for those around him.
3. A man who makes others feel at ease and comfortable.
4. A man who helps others without expecting anything in return.
Descriptions from previous nominees are heartwarming and encouraging:
Chris’ servant attitude is at the core of his gentlemanly traits and he is always ready to lend a helping hand, whether that’s helping a young woman move into her new apartment or offering a male perspective when dealing with a situation. …
Derrick unabashedly shows respect and consideration to everyone he is around. As a true gentleman, these traits are demonstrated not only through words but through actions. He is one of few who not only opens the door for his loved ones but strangers. …
what strikes me about TJ is his respect for the modern woman. As a member of the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, he goes head to head with women on a daily basis and displays a level of respect and esteem for female intellect that I am positive all NeW women can appreciate. He is a thoughtful listener, someone you can turn to for a cup of coffee.
Of course there’s prizes for the winner, but beyond that this effort is about identifying all the good men out there. And we need more of that nowadays.
College students across the nation are encouraged to nominate an undergrad by Feb. 28. C’mon College Fix readers, I know you know a few good men.
