Walker’s Win is Obama’s Loss

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus hit the nail on the head in a memo released Wednesday. “Less than four years after Obama won Wisconsin, Democrats lost in an election of their own making.”

The Democrats and the Obama administration made a terrible mistake when they decided to throw their weight behind the Wisconsin recall election, turning it into a national referendum on the Democrats and a proxy war between Romney and Obama. Now that governor Scott Walker has beat back the threat, and won his seat for a second time, it can be interpreted in no other way than a loss for the president himself.

David Axelrod’s “army of lawyers,” and Eric Holders poll watchers, and the labor union political machine, weren’t enough to make a difference. Wisconsin voters sent the labor union-backed recall down in resounding defeat.

Today, the Obama campaign is realizing that their reelection effort is going to be even tougher than they imagined. As Romney himself put it on the eve of Republican victory, “Tonight’s results will echo beyond the borders of Wisconsin.”
