Students for Life says one individual was arrested as a result of the incident
Students spit on a pro-life leader, mobbed her display table, and stole fetal models Thursday at Virginia Commonwealth University, according to Students for Life of America.
One student was arrested, the pro-life organization stated on its website.
The incident took place during a stop on Students for Life spokesperson Lydia Davis’s “Abortion is Violence” campus tour.
On Thursday, angry students began chanting “abortion on demand” and formed a mob around Davis’s display table, according to the organization:
Instead of “caring for women,” as many pro-abortion supporters claim, an angry student spit at Davis, and one student stole fetal models and tore up SFLA event flyers. Thankfully, security was there to catch and arrest him.
The online threats [related to the VCU event] were abundant, calling Davis an “evil bitch, encouraging people to “push her to the curb,” wishing her pain and death, and more despicable names, which are hardly civil arguments, but rather unfounded and unintelligent attacks.
“We’re grateful that VCU police ensured our safety and the safety of those who wanted to participate in a civil discussion,” Davis stated.
The university media relations office did not immediately respond to an email from The Fix on Friday, asking for more details about the incident and arrest, as well as VCU’s efforts ensure various opinions are respected on campus.
Despite some students’ hostility, Davis said she did have good conversations with people about abortion throughout the day.
“It’s never a shock when these incidents occur, but it’s a stark reminder of why I’m doing this tour in the first place,” Davis stated. “There are many students who want to have a respectful conversation, as well as students who lean pro-choice but stand against abortion extremism, as evident by the results of the election.
“However, students who purposefully break the law, vandalize our property, and physically spit at us prove the point of my tour without me saying a word: abortion is violence, and radical abortion supporters can resort to violence or inappropriate behavior themselves,” she stated.
Students at VCU also have clashed with Students for Life leaders at past campus events.
Notably, in 2023, six individuals faced criminal charges after attacking two separate events sponsored by the national pro-life organization, The College Fix reported.
At one event, students and individuals with the group Antifa disrupted a speech by Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins; several were arrested, according to the organization.
