Next Tuesday will be “Pink Out Day” at the University of Arizona because, as The Daily Wildcat headlines, “UA stands in solidarity” with Planned Parenthood.
Of course, it’s not the university itself (although that indeed may be the case), but students at the school. They’re upset at the “241 House Representatives who voted to defund” the organization back on September 18.
But … why did these folks vote to deny monies to the organization?
The article doesn’t say.
One of the ways, we’re told, in which students can show their support next week is to “take pictures with their signs and hashtags,” because, as we all know, that is certainly a very acknowledged means of effecting change, eh?
More from The Daily Wildcat:
Planned Parenthood should be supported and not defunded, [Voices for Planned Parenthood President Anna] Keen said, because it is an amazing organization that provides support and life-saving healthcare to millions of people around the world everyday, giving patients everything from cancer screenings to education about preventing teen pregnancy.
“Sometimes I get frustrated with the government, but I do believe that we can fight back, that we will stay resilient and that we’re fighting for a good cause,” Keen said.
“I support Planned Parenthood because I don’t think we have a right to tell women what they can and cannot do with their own bodies,” [Feminists Organized to Resist, Create, Change, and Empower member Margot] Luna said. “I think to take that choice away from women is to degrade them to the lowest point imaginable.”
“I believe that, as a woman, I have [my] own choice of what to do with my body, and I will continue to fight for having that right,” [Raíz Melissa] Garcia said. “People should support Planned Parenthood because Planned Parenthood is there for you regardless of your color, regardless of your status and always cares, no matter what.”
Again, why would so many want to defund PP? Um, let me, see …
