Student accused pro-lifers of not helping women while they collected diapers for needy families

A University of Florida student recently ripped down pro-life flyers and described abortion as child “sacrifice” while a conservative club collected diapers for families in need, according to a video taken by the club.

The handmade flyers by the UF Young America’s Foundation chapter displayed messages such as “Every child deserves a chance” and “Abortion stops a beating heart,” YAF’s The New Guard reports.

Kylie Gillis, a member of the chapter, said the students created the flyers to advertise an upcoming “Pro-Life Timeline” project. She said the chapter also was collecting diapers, wipes, pacifiers, and other baby items to help new mothers in the community.

Gillis said the vandalism took place soon after she and a fellow YAF member began hanging the flyers across campus last week.

“While doing so, we noticed a female student who seemed particularly concerned about what we were doing,” Gillis wrote at The New Guard:

In the past, just about every flyer our chapter posts gets quickly torn down by angry campus leftists, so we knew to use a ridiculous amount of tape and staples. After running out of tape during this flyer blitz, I ran to get more from my car and told my fellow YAFer to wait by the bulletin board. He took a seat nearby and waited for the leftist student to approach our flyers. Sure enough, not 20 seconds after I walked away, she started ripping them down.

We approached the leftist student to ask why she was tearing down our chapter’s flyers which promoted helping mothers. … She proceeded to accuse us and our YAF chapter of being racist, a classic go-to for leftists.

In the video, the female student argues with the YAF members while she tears down their flyers. At one point, she says women should be allowed to “choose to be able to sacrifice a child.”

“I support women having a choice,” she says. “… pro-women is being able to choose, choose to be able to sacrifice a child,” adding quickly afterward “not even a child.”

At another point, she laughs when a pro-life student tells her men also are hurt by abortion.

Eventually, the student walks away carrying an armload of crumpled flyers.

Gillis said the student accused them of not helping mothers in need – “exactly what we were doing with the flyers she tore down.”

“I tried to tell her about our supply drive to help mothers and their babies, but she yelled over me and angrily said, ‘Are you gonna let me talk, or are you gonna speak over a black woman?’” she said.

Gillis said the claim that pro-lifers don’t care about women is a common misconception.

“This lazy lie is used in attempts to frame pro-life activists as evil while justifying the murder of the unborn,” she wrote at The New Guard.

Pro-life advocates frequently experience vandalism on college campuses, according to records in The College Fix’s Campus Cancel Culture Database.

In a November incident, for example, a woman vandalized a pro-life display at Johns Hopkins University, yelling at the group while spray painting and ripping their banners, The Fix reported.

That same month, students spit on a Students for Life of America leader, mobbed her display table, and stole fetal models at Virginia Commonwealth University, as The Fix reported at the time.
