A new survey out of the University of Chicago shows that two-thirds of American adults are against transgender females competing with biological females in women’s sporting events.
Specifically, a big majority in the NORC at U. Chicago poll (formerly known as the National Opinion Research Center) said trans-females should “never” or “in rare cases” get to compete against “cisgender” women, according to the New York Post.
The figure applies almost equally to transgender girls as to transgender women.
Interestingly, despite trans-females having physical advantages over biological females in competitions, over half of those surveyed also said trans-males “never or rarely” should compete with biological males.
In addition, roughly half think young adults (ages 18-29) are “influenced by popular culture to identify with an LGBTQ+ identity.”
Overall, the survey indicates Americans are quite tolerant of the LGBTQ+ community with over three-fourths favoring anti-discrimination laws for gay/lesbian Americans, and similar numbers favoring same for bisexual and trans/non-binary individuals.
Other survey results:
— Regarding “sexual relations between two adults of the same sex,” almost three-fourths said it’s “not an issue/sometimes wrong.”
— Over 80 percent said they “approve” of same-sex relationships or “think it’s all right” (but not for themselves).
— Strong majorities said it “would not make a difference” if a “well-qualified” gay/lesbian/bi/trans/non-binary person was their political party’s nominee for Congress.
— Strong majorities also said the government is paying “too much/about the right amount” of attention to gay/lesbian/bi/trans/non-binary individuals.
— Almost two-thirds said they would not be “very upset” or consider it a “non-issue” if their child came out as gay or lesbian.
— A majority of respondents (54 percent) said if a student comes out as transgender or non-binary, schools should “not tell the parents except in rare circumstances” or not tell parents at all.
As reported by The College Fix, several conservative organizations including the Independent Women’s Forum and Parents Defending Education filed suit against President Biden’s “rewrite” of Title IX. They allege the revision tramples on students’ First Amendment rights as “it will compel them to affirm other students’ so-called ‘gender identity’ and discriminates against opposing views.”
