Ironically, he runs a student ‘mental health’ club at school
An Advanced Placement history teacher at a California high school was recorded engaging in a profanity-laced anti-Trump rant after Tuesday’s presidential election.
According to Corey DeAngelis on X, Valley View High School’s Maximiliano Perez told his students that “this shit [the election] is not a fucking game” as they could “end up in a concentration camp” and “with no human rights” within their lifetimes.
Perez did note such “most likely [would] not” happen and was “a good thing” … right before saying the president-elect has “quoted Hitler” and “embodies” some of the Nazi leader’s “ideals.”
After complaining that “black and brown men” didn’t turn up on Election Day to vote for Kamala Harris, Perez tells his class he knows “a lot of Latino men who wish they were white” — including students’ “fathers, uncles, and grandfathers.”
“God, they wanna be White so bad but they never will be,” Perez says. “I hate that shit. I hate Latino men that oppress the women in their family, their own daughters. And then they turn around and vote for men who want to oppress them.”
Perez then turns his focus on women: “God I fucking hate the patriarchy. If you’re a young man right now in front of me, I hope you hate it too […] you get the privilege of not being born with a uterus.”
After exhaling loudly, Perez says “I’m so fucking sorry, guys. You deserve better” (presumably a reference to Trump, not himself).
Continuing through the “oppression” matrix, Perez tells his charges that they have “a fuck-ton of privilege living in this great state” because there’s a “poor Palestinian boy in Michigan that’s gonna get beat up today.”
Perez then calls Trump “treasonous scum” and a “rapist, draft-dodging coward,” and asks the class to ponder why people would vote for Joe Biden — a “geriatric, old Republican racist who’s running as a Democrat” — but not Kamala Harris, who has an “effective policy for the future.” And also a “vagina,” a “uterus,” and “melanin.”
Perez says he “cried for a week” after Biden dropped out and Harris took over the Democratic candidacy because he “knew” Harris’ physical attributes would be her Achilles heel — despite being “the best candidate in the country.”
“We all deserve better,” Perez concludes. “You know what this country is. Is our country racist? Is our country patriarchal? Can we change it? Maybe.”
Ironically, Perez appears to be the faculty sponsor for the “AP Mental Club” which “focus[es] on mental health and social resources” for students enrolled in AP courses, and where students can “share enjoyment in scholarship with others” and “experience social emotional wellness firsthand.”
Valley View HS Principal Chris Gilliatt sent an email to students in Perez’s class thanking “those who came forward to express their concerns” about the “heated” post-election discussion.
Gilliatt noted the school “do[es] not condone the behavior that was exhibited in class,” and that teachers “hold a unique and influential role in guiding students.” As such, there needs to be a “balanced environment where all students feel safe to ask questions” and “engage in respectful dialogue.”
As of Saturday, DeAngelis also obtained an email from Moreno Valley Unified School District officials to parents noting they are aware of an incident in which a teacher behaved in an “unprofessional” manner. It has begun an investigation, and Perez has been put on administrative leave in the interim.
According to US News, Valley View HS is three-quarters Hispanic, 12.4 percent black, and just over seven percent white. Seventeen percent of students are proficient in math, with 45 percent are proficient in reading.
