The demand for racism continues to exceed the supply
There were 21 campus hate crime hoaxes uncovered this year.
A hate crime hoax occurs when a person admits to fabricating the attack or something that appears criminal turns out to not be, such as a noose that is really just a garage pulley at a NASCAR race. It can also include situations where the given facts suggest no one intended to harm someone on the basis of race, sex, sexual orientation, or religion.
1. Police charge ‘black feminist theory’ PhD with theft for fundraising on false brick attack
Police accused Roda Osman, a University of Texas-Austin graduate student, of theft after she raised $40,000 on the pretense she was the victim of assault. Rather, video shows her taking the first swing during an argument. She disputes the criminal charges.
2. Illinois State University can’t ‘verify the use of a racial slur’ by a fan
After interviewing 47 people and reviewing hours of footage, the public university in Normal said in January it could not “verify the use of a racial slur” by a basketball fan that allegedly occurred during a game in Dec. 2023.
An East Ramapo High School women’s basketball player alleged there were racial taunts, including “monkey” sounds made during a game in early 2024. However, neither high school could confirm the allegations, and a parent present at the game challenged the claims.
Police charged two individuals in February in connection to an alleged hate crime incident at the University of Maryland. But one individual listed as “white” has the last name “Delgado” and is from a town that is 75 percent Hispanic and 20 percent Asian.
5. Missouri noose is not ‘racially motivated’ school district says
A “kid in crisis” left the noose. “After extensive conversations and investigation, we do not believe this to be a racially-motivated incident,” the Francis Howell School school district said. A black parent had jumped to the conclusion that the noose was racially motivated while the local NAACP connected it to conservative school board members pushing for a right-leaning agenda.
Isha Hussein said the University of Washington did nothing to help her after her Jewish roommate allegedly threatened her with a knife during an argument about the war in Israel. Actually, the Jewish roommate moved out of the residence hall and Hussein herself declined to have the police investigate further. The Jewish student disputes the allegations.
7. and 8. No records of Hussein being assaulted by another roommate
Isha Hussein made two other claims. One, she claimed another roommate assaulted her in retaliation for reporting the Jewish roommate. No police report exists for this alleged assault. A spokesman to the school, in connection to the various allegations, said that they were “difficult to verify or resolve for all parties.” Hussein also claimed the third and final roommate threatened her. While this could have happened, the lack of evidence in the first two allegations points to this also not being true, as well as the lack of any other police reports besides the October 2023 one.
9. NPR, AP imply ‘extremism’ link to teen that yelled racial slur
A teen actually did yell a racial slur at black female basketball players. The teen yelled a racial slur while making a sexually suggestive remark to the University of Utah women’s basketball team. Parts of the allegations did fall apart, such as that trucks were revving their engines as they drove past and people yelled racial slurs. But beyond that, the Associated Press and National Public Radio insinuated the slurs were linked to white supremacist groups that had once operated in the area.
However, there was no proof the teenager who admitted to yelling the slurs had a connection to those groups. Teens shouldn’t yell the n-word and make sexually suggestive remarks and the media shouldn’t find links where they don’t exist.
10. ‘N-word’ notes at Rhodes College were a hoax
University investigates, finds “F n-word” and “Trump rules” notes near plaza dedicated to black sororities and fraternities were “fabricated.”
11. ‘Blackface’ banner at Colorado State was just due to ink bleeding, lighting
Remember a good rule in life is to assume the most charitable reason first before accusing a fraternity of being racist.
The alleged victim of an anti-gay “hate crime” is not even homosexual – and he changed his story multiple times.
Enough has been written about this case by now that no further description is needed.
14. ‘Harassment’ and ‘racism’ toward black teacher by pro-Trump students lacks evidence
A black teacher and black students at California’s Beverly Hills High School claim pro-Trump students harassed them. But video shown by news stations shows a crowd of pro-Trump students walking through the halls but little actual harassment. Also worth noting is many of the students supporting Trump appear to be Hispanic.
15. Some people claim n-word carved into Gettysburg College student’s chest was a prank
Questions arise of how one student held down another student and carved a racial slur into his chest. The family of the alleged victim also declined to go to the police and stopped talking to the NAACP – even after asking it to help investigate.
16. Sherwood High School noose not ‘racist’ or ‘anti-black’
Again, sometimes a rope is just a rope.
17. White Baltimore principal accused of racism after black colleague uses AI
A black administrator used artificial intelligence to frame a white principal for racism.
18. University of Virginia settles with white student accused of racism for ‘speed bumps’ comment
A white student, Morgan Bettinger, received an undisclosed settlement from the school after a black student, now a “fat liberation advocate” for Dove, accused her of joking about running over black activists. UVA punished her, as The College Fix previously reported.
19. San Francisco State University omits that hate crime suspect also wrote ‘I LIKE MEXICANS’
Enough said.
20. NC State quiet about racial slur investigation
“I don’t know,” a spokesman told The Fix when asked if the investigation into racial slurs used against the University of North Carolina women’s basketball team was still active.
21. Suspect accused of shooting three Palestinian-American students supports Hamas
The College Fix did not report on this, but h/t to Jewish News Service for catching it.
The Fix is working on at least one other story right now of a potential hate crime hoax, so 2025 may very well be just like this year. Stay tuned.
