Introducing the Committee to Rescind Asinine/Archaic Procedures, or C.R.A.P. Although its name makes it sound like a fantasy for bureaucracy-loathing hawks, it’s a legitimate group at West Virginia University.
“While the acronym is tongue in cheek, the Committee to Rescind Asinine/Archaic Procedures (C.R.A.P.) represents an institution-wide initiative to identify policies, procedures, practices, and processes that can be made more efficient,” the university’s website states.
“Some compliance requirements are driven by federal or state laws, but many other existing requirements on campus are driven by forgotten history, by convenience to a limited constituency, by quests for unnecessary enforcement and by the patchwork evolution of communication and authority at an institution with diverse activities,” it adds. “The Committee will make every effort to identify ways in which our community can improve clarity, efficiency and effectiveness of policies and procedures both to promote compliance and to reduce the faculty and staff time spent in bureaucratic shuffles.”
The committee consists of a dozen campus employees, including professors, IT officials and campus administrators. West Virginia University officials did not respond to a request by The College Fix to learn more about this committee, what it does, what victories its had, and the like.
But the fact that it exists at all puts a smile on our face.
