OPINION: Editors of the University of Portland student newspaper, who were 10 or 11 when Trump was first elected, offer their opinion of the doom and gloom that is coming
The University of Portland student newspaper hit President Donald Trump with a hyperlink cannon of attacks as it warned of “anxiety” from this election.
The Catholic university, where students cried because a priest asked for a pride flag to be removed, continues to beclown itself.
The student editors, who were about 10 or 11-years-old during Trump’s first election, offered this warning in their editorial.
They wrote:
The Beacon Editorial Board stands with democracy, truth, reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, the dignity and protection of immigrants, equal access to education, climate justice, freedom of the press, religious freedom, racial justice and the right to protest.
We stand against fascism, fear-mongering, restrictions on bodily autonomy, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, racist and ableist policies, tax cuts for the rich, voter suppression, censorship, mass deportations and the destruction of our planet — all of which Trump has promised.
While the editors understand the “anger” about Trump’s election (a sweeping victory that included winning all seven swing states and a record number of Latinos), they urge their peers to keep up the fight.
“The fight for justice shouldn’t fall on a select few,” the paper said, with the “few” being “the most marginalized.”
“It’s a responsibility we hold collectively,” the student newspaper wrote.
It would be great if Trump actually carried out some of the things the newspaper fears, like restricting abortion and pushing back against the LGBT agenda. I doubt he will do much to restrict abortion, as he has indicated he thinks the issue is largely up to the states.

This student newspaper editorial follows other hyped-up fears from universities and student newspapers. Swarthmore College’s student newspaper, for example, promised to protect the campus from “threats,” as The College Fix recently reported.
Meanwhile a Yale University psychiatrist said to avoid Trump-supporting relatives at the holidays.
These examples just prove education does not equal wisdom or knowledge.
