Libertarian Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul called on the federal government to disband its student loan program in an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” over the weekend. Paul said that if he were elected president, the program would eventually go.
“Just think of all this willingness to want to help every student get a college education,” said Paul. “I went to school when we had none of those. I could work my way through college and medical school because it wasn’t so expensive.”
Total student loan debt will exceed $1 trillion by the end of the year.
