Rhode Island’s state higher education board unanimously approved in-state tuition for illegal immigrants at Rhode Island’s public universities and colleges.
Like similar policies in other states, illegal students must qualify for in-state tuition by attending a high school in the state for at least three years and subsequently graduating (or achieving an equivalent degree), as well as committing to seek legal status as soon as they are eligible.
In-state tuition at the University of Rhode Island is $9,824, compared to $25,912 for out-of-state students. Rhode Island becomes the 14th state to adopt in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.
