Professor posts ‘Let’s hope today’s events inspire others’ after Trump assassination attempt

A professor is under fire for posting after the recent assassination attempt against Donald Trump: “Let’s hope today’s events inspire others.”

Rutgers University Assistant Teaching Professor Tracy Budd made the comments on Facebook, and also added: “They shot his wig. Sad.”

Screenshots of Budd’s posts were obtained and first reported on by Campus Reform on Tuesday, which also noted:

Budd’s Facebook is set to private, but her cover picture contains a poster at a protest that read: “Capitalism will kill us all. Gender is fake. Eat garbage. Be free.”

Budd is also the editor of Dialogues@RU, an undergraduate research journal, “which teaches students the crucial skills of critical reading and thinking, scholarly research, synthesis, and analytic writing across the disciplines.”

In response to the news, Republican gubernatorial candidate Ed Durr wants Rutgers to fire Budd, the New Jersey Globe reported.

“New Jersey does not need people like this teaching our children,” Durr said.

Budd has yet to respond to requests from the Globe or Campus Reform seeking comment.

Screenshots of Budd’s comments went viral on X on Tuesday, including from a post by Libs of TikTok, which was seen more than 1.4 million times.

Many X users then looped Rutgers into their posts on X, calling on Budd to be fired.

Budd is not the only scholar under fire for comments wishing Trump had been killed in the assassination attempt.

A University of Alabama scholar stated Trump “had it coming,” and a Bellarmine University professor stated “if you’re gonna shoot, man, don’t miss.” Both scholars’ employments have since been terminated.
