Olivia Krolczyk alleges the university did ‘absolutely nothing’ to stop transgender activists from shutting down her speech
A conservative women’s rights advocate whose speech was shut down at the University of Washington last month has filed a civil rights complaint against the public institution.
Olivia Krolczyk, (pictured) an ambassador for the Riley Gaines Center, announced her actions against the university Tuesday in a video on X.
“I have officially filed a complaint with the Office of Civil Rights at the Department of Education against the University of Washington,” Krolczyk said.
“Students and invited guests who visit publicly funded universities should be assured that the laws protecting against discrimination will be upheld,” she said.
Krolczyk was slated to speak at a Turning Point USA chapter event Jan. 21 on campus, but transgender activists disrupted her talk, pulling the fire alarm and smashing a window, eventually leading to its cancellation, The College Fix reported.
The title of her talk was “Protect Women from Men: The Threat of the Trans Agenda.”
“I was a victim of discrimination and university officials did absolutely nothing about this,” she said Tuesday in the video. “Instead, they actually released a statement blaming me and the Turning Point students, claiming that I was there with the intention to provide dramatic social media content and I was there to antagonize the other side, which simply is not true.”
In an effort to protect other students and speakers from being canceled, she said she decided to file the complaint.
“This is a step toward accountability and meaningful change for the rights that we all have as Americans,” Krolczyk said.
The Daily Wire first reported about the complaint:
The complaint, which was shared with The Daily Wire, says that the University of Washington failed to take “reasonable and necessary measures” to address the hostile environment Krolczyk experienced as an invited guest at the school. It further cites the “deliberate indifference the UW leadership and administration showed leading up to and since the incident occurred.”
Citing Title IX, Krolczyk is asking the Education Department to investigate the “gender based hostile environment and discrimination” and the school administration’s “deliberate indifference to the matter.”
In a statement to The Fix in January, UW spokesperson Victor Balta said the TPUSA organizers made the choice to suspend the event.
He said campus police discussed security with organizers weeks prior to the event, but the student club “unfortunately, changed its plans during the course of the day.”
Balta also said, “The responsibility for interrupting last night’s event falls on those whose actions were disruptive and damaging, including breaking a window, graffiti in the building and wasting firefighters’ time with a false fire alarm.”
Meanwhile, women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines praised Krolczyk on X, saying she was “very proud” of her decision to fight back.
She is “holding UofWashington and those who attempted to silence her accountable,” Gaines wrote. “Make no mistake, the war on woke hasn’t been won yet.”
Krolczyk became a public advocate for women’s rights after she said she received a failing grade for using the term “biological woman” in an assignment at the University of Cincinnati.
After gaining widespread attention on TikTok regarding the incident, she was banned from the platform. She was accused of violating its “community guidelines.”
