U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jacob Milich and UCF College Republicans President Elaine Sarlo have been booted from the University of Central Florida’s student government elections over allegations they broke election rules by advertising their campaign too early.
Milich and Sarlo were running for student government president and vice president, respectively.
“Friends, family, and fellow students, after spending seven hours defending ourselves in a hearing that was closed to the public, and despite my best efforts to push for reason and sense to guide the decisions of the election commission, I come to you with the unfortunate news that Elaine and I have been suspended from the presidential election ballot,” Milich recently posted on Facebook. “In doing so, the voices of 63,000 students were silenced before they were even able to speak.”
The Knight News campus newspaper reports that a College Democrat is behind the complaint that led to Milich’s and Sarlo’s disqualification.
Milich told Fox & Friends on Monday he is seeking legal recourse to reverse the decision and get his ticket back on the ballot, but with the election underway he faces an uphill battle.
