A parody Facebook page has been created that uses Christianity in its attempt to mock college students who write for a conservative-leaning publication at the Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges in Southern California.
The page “Pray for the Boys of Claremont” includes images of women praying and prayer requests as posts in its suggestion that contributors to the Claremont Independent are in need of repentance. Its posts include:
#1 Prayer Request: The Boys of the Claremont Independent. Only the grace of our Lord can save them.
Prayer Request #2, from our first visitor!:
Come Gracious Spirit, Heavenly Dove,
With light and comfort from above.
Be THEIR Guardian, Be THEIR Guide,
to the Claremont Independents’ vile right. Amen!
At one point the page also included the names and images of some of the top student contributors to the publication, the Claremont Independent reported:
The group swiftly turned their gaze to a specific student at Pomona College, condemning the CI’s Managing Editor, Jose Ruiz, for being both a Person of Color and writer associated with the Claremont Independent.

After a series of complaints, the page removed the explicit mention of Jose’s name and promised to “refrain from posting names in the future” because “[t]he Lord does not need names to know for whom we pray.” In addition to this retraction, the group removed a picture featuring current Independent Editor in Chief Steven Glick, Publisher Taylor Schmitt, and former Editor In Chief Hannah Oh …
The one-week-old page has garnered 127 Likes. A post from earlier in the week stated: “Jesus, please help the boys in Claremont to find the compassion in their hearts that will prevent the vitriol they seek to spread. Bring them to salvation through you to our Lord God, Your Father.”
In addition to largely targeting the Independent, it calls for prayer requests for any of the “gross boys in your life.” At least one comment to the page has chastised it as “cyberbullying crap.”
