Florida Atlantic U. moves to fire prof who claims Sandy Hook, other shootings, are hoaxes

Conspiracy theorist James Tracy, a professor at Florida Atlantic University, was notified by the college the week of December 14 that it intends to fire him.

Tracy’s (arguably) most infamous charge is that the Sandy Hook Elementary School slaughter was a big hoax.

FAU said back in 2013 that, since Tracy had written about his theories on his personal website, it could not relieve him of his position.

However, the school says Tracy now has taken to harassing some parents of a Sandy Hook victim.

New Times Broward-Palm Beach reports:

The jig could be up for James Tracy, the Florida Atlantic University professor who believes the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre was staged by the Obama administration. After harassing the parents of a Sandy Hook victim (to the point that said parents felt compelled to write an op-ed in the Sun-Sentinel asking him to stop), Tracy was notified last week that the university intends to fire him. He was given ten days to respond.

Yet Tracy’s website, Memory Hole, has not gone dark. Instead, Tracy seems to have doubled down.

On Sunday, the blog republished an article Tracy had written in 2014 critiquing Sandy Hook parents on the basis of “evidence” like their LinkedIn pages. That day, Tracy also posted an open letter written by fellow conspiracy theorist and former academic James Fetzer and a video by Fetzer suggesting that the parents had attacked Tracy, not the other way around.

The parents in question, Veronique and Lenny Pozner, filed harassment charges against Tracy after he sent them “a certified letter demanding proof that [their son] Noah once lived, that they were his parents and owned the rights to [his] photo.”

When the Pozners did not respond to the letter, they say the professor “subjected [them] to ridicule and contempt on his blog,” claiming the “‘unfulfilled request’ was ‘noteworthy’ because [they] had used copyright claims to ‘thwart continued research of the Sandy Hook massacre event.’”

The Sun-Sentinel provides a statement from Florida Atlantic:

Today, James Tracy, an associate professor in the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies, was served a Notice of Proposed Discipline — Termination by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at Florida Atlantic University.

In accordance with the University’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with the United Faculty of Florida union, by which the University and James Tracy are bound, faculty who receive such notice are afforded a grievance process. James Tracy has 10 days to respond to the notice after which final action may be taken.

In accordance with university practice regarding personnel issues, the university will make no further comment for the time being.
