Anti-Israel prof finally sues University of Illinois for dumping him over tweets

Following his speaking tour and a flood of bad publicity for the institution that only realized belatedly this guy is more trouble than he’s worth, anti-Israel academic Steven Salaita has finally sued the University of Illinois for revoking his job offer over his tweets.

The Intercept reports that Salaita’s lawyers and the Center for Constitutional Rights, which threatened a lawsuit almost immediately last summer, filed suit against UI in federal court today.

The suit demands compensatory and punitive damages for violating Salaita’s “free speech and due process rights along with claims for breach of contract, conspiracy, and destruction of evidence,” The Intercept said.

Beyond the trustees who voted down his appointment, Salaita’s suit names “unknown donors” as defendants – a reference to the emails unveiled by a FOIA request that show the chancellor’s office flooded with threats to withdraw financial support if Salaita were appointed.
