Althouse has a great blog post exploring unanswered questions behind Hillary Clinton’s assertion that she donated the speaking fees she has collected from eight universities over the last year – an estimated $2 million – to her personal Clinton Foundation:
“What is her salary from the foundation? How much of her expenses are covered by family foundation money? How many members of her family make salaries from that foundation? To what extent is the foundation an income tax dodge? …”
She also takes on this argument by some that, well – it shouldn’t matter what Clinton got paid, because her speeches were funded by private donors to universities’ foundations, which foot the bills – not student tuitions or general fund money:
“Taking from your foundation and putting it in my foundation … what a lovely, arrogant metaphor for a liberal’s view of government! I can spend your money better than you can. The universities have money that they might spend to improve education for their students and to advance scholarship, but it could be shifted into the Clinton Foundation which does whatever it does, some charitable things that maintain and advance the Clintons’ political fortunes.”
Indeed. The disingenuousness of Clinton’s actions are incredibly transparent. To act like she is some saint because, in her own words – she gave the money to her foundation to “continue its life-changing and life-saving work” takes a gall that the Clintons truly have mastered.
