Police retract claim of ‘racist’ graffiti at Colorado Mesa University

Graffiti read ‘F*** ICE’

Local police retracted a claim officers found “racist” graffiti on a college campus.

“On March 18, 2025, the Grand Junction Police Department released a statement on the vandalism that occurred at Colorado Mesa University,” the police department wrote on Tuesday.

“In this statement, the vandalism was described as anti-government and racist,” the department stated. “Upon further investigation, it was determined that the graffiti was not racially motivated. We were incorrect in using this word.”

The Facebook post does not describe what was written at all, which likely created the problems in the first place. “When officers arrived on campus, 1100 North Ave., they discovered several ‘antigovernment’ and ‘racist’ words spray-painted on various parts of the campus,” WesternSlopeNow.com reported last week, without providing any other details on what specifically was said.

It turns out two individuals reportedly wrote “F*** ICE,” referring to the law enforcement agency that helps with deportations of illegal immigrants. WesternSlopeNow.com reported, after visiting campus and finding the graffiti.

Both suspects (pictured) are white, according to the original police statement:

Surveillance video captured images of two masked subjects believed to be involved. These subjects are described as a white male with a bun wearing a two-tone dark sweatshirt and dark sweats in a light-colored mask and a white female wearing a two-toned striped sweatshirt and sandals in a light-colored mask.

Campus activities have drawn the ire of some, as the school has an active Turning Point USA group that has been critical of illegal immigration.

Another group hosted white nationalist Jared Taylor earlier this week.
