President Obama has said that extending the College Cost Reduction and Access Act is a priority, but Senator Obama didn’t even show up to vote when the initial law was passed by Congress in 2007.
He abstained from the vote even though he was on the conference committee assigned with the task of merging the House and Senate versions of the bill.
Still, the fact that he didn’t vote on the bill didn’t prevent him from taking credit for it: “By investing in education we are restoring America’s competitiveness in the world, and today is an important step forward,” he said at the time.
