The College Fix

Last weekend the president made a speech that was as alarming as it was revealing. The extent of his collectivist economic views was on full display, and watching a video of the speech is enough to chill one’s blood. It makes you realize that this president has only begun to implement the radical economic and social transformations he envisions for this country. This is a president who sees entrepreneurs as little more than social welfare beneficiaries. He dismisses intelligence and hard work, making it clear that in his eyes–those who achieve success owe the government unlimited tribute. In his eyes, nothing you have is truly yours. He believes your success is the government’s achievement and your resources are the government’s property.

With this speech, Obama has positioned himself as the adversary of the business owner, the innovator, the job creator.

Commentary fails at times like these. You just have to sit back and watch this video and marvel at the shocking fact that a man with these kind of socialistic views has managed to become the leader of the land of the free. And marvel at the cheers of his devoted masses–who sound as if they are ready to follow him to whatever end. Do they know where this man wants to lead them?

UPDATE: Just read about a new book entitled The Communist: Frank Marshall Davis: the untold story of Barack Obama’s mentor. The book claims that Davis had a heavy influence on Obama’s early political views, and includes the following quote from one of Obama’s fellow college students at Occidental: “Obama was already an ardent Marxist when I met him in the fall of 1980.” Little wonder we now hear Obama producing speeches like the one above.
