Northeastern to host ‘Abortion Launch’ party to celebrate new abortion pills on campus

Party will include an open mic, crafts, and ‘safer sex supplies’

Northeastern University groups are getting ready to host a “Medication Abortion Launch Party” with an open mic and crafts to celebrate abortion pills now being offered on campus.

The University Health and Counseling Services center and the student group NU Sexual Health Advocacy, Resources, and Education are hosting the “celebration” on Feb. 10, according to an event listing on the College of Social Sciences and Humanities website.

The private Boston university just began offering abortion pills on campus to students through its health center, the student group wrote on Instagram.

“An interdisciplinary and intergenerational group of students, staff, and faculty have been working on the initiative to bring medication abortion to campus for many months and this event is the culimination of that effort!” the event listing states.

At the party, an open mic will be available for poets, musicians, and writers who want to perform “on the theme ‘Autonomy.’”

The event also will include crafts, food, “safer sex supplies,” and “reproductive justice” speakers, according to the group’s Instagram posts.

“Come celebrate this milestone in the Curry Ballroom and learn more about medication abortion and how to access it on campus,” the event listing states.

A number of colleges in Democrat-run states now provide abortion pills or abortion referrals on campus.

Massachusetts passed legislation in 2022 requiring its public colleges and universities to provide students with access to medication abortions either on campus or through a referral, The Fix reported previously.

Some private colleges, like Northeastern, also have chosen to do so.

However, pro-life student clubs and other advocacy groups continue to push back against these abortion expansions, saying abortion pills kill unborn babies and can cause risks to women’s physical and mental health.

Abortion pills are used to abort unborn babies up until about 10 weeks of pregnancy.
