New video: Student hero takes down Seattle university gunman

Two years ago a man opened fire on students at Seattle Pacific University, but only this week video of the student-hero who disarmed the gunman was released.

Several Seattle media outlets received a three-minute video showing the June 2014 shooting, in which one student was killed and two others injured.

Most news outlets have edited the video down to only show the heroics of student-safety monitor Jon Meis, who pepper-sprayed the gunman, took away his gun, and wrestled him to the ground and held him there until help arrived.

“Victims of the shooting as well as the university had tried to block the city from releasing the videos,” the Seattle Times reports, adding the gunman goes on trial this September and plans to pursue an insanity defense.
