More information has been revealed about the admissions scandal at the University of Illinois, in which top officials at the flagship school are accused of accepting applicants at the intervention of politicians and prominent donors.
The Chicago Tribune has identified “about one-quarter of the 800 students who got preferential treatment from 2005 to 2009,” the newspaper reported. It has used this information to link politicians to the families they were helping during the now-defunct secret admissions process.
The new details include the names of politicians involved, how many requests were made and how successful the applicants were after the intervention. The subpar applicants often had connections to major donors of the politicians’ campaigns, the newspaper reported
