More students, scholars caught trashing posters of Israelis held hostage by Hamas

Several recent incidents of scholars and students ripping down Israeli hostage posters have been captured on video or flagged on social media.

George Washington University law Professor Jonathan Turley posted on X on Thursday that his daughter witnessed some of the destruction.

The posters say “kidnapped” in bold red lettering and show the more than 200 Israeli civilians taken hostage by the terrorist organization Hamas.

“Today, one of my kids saw another person ripping down flyers of Hamas hostages on the George Washington campus. Rather than post their own flyers and messages, these students believe that they have license to prevent others from speaking or reading alternative viewpoints,” Turley wrote.

“The latest incident occurred near the law school as the student methodically walked from pole to pole ripping down the images and throwing them away. This sense of entitlement to silence others is all-too-common on our campuses,” he added.

On his person blog, Turley also flagged a video showing an alleged George Mason University student taking down the posters as well.

A former adjunct professor with the City University of New York system was also filmed ripping down some of the hostage posters in a video that went viral in recent days, with over 1.2 million views.

The self-described non-binary scholar, Callen Zimmerman, who is listed as a PhD student in Stony Brook University’s Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies program, is shown in the video tearing down a hostage poster hung on city street pole.

Two people film the destruction and tell her “shame on you,” to which the scholar replied, “Go colonize somewhere else — free Palestine.” Later in the video clip it shows Zimmerman lunge and push the person filming.

A spokesperson for Stony Brook University told the Daily Mail that the “social media post regarding a Stony Brook University graduate student being widely circulated on social media is vile and infuriating, and in no way represents the views of Stony Brook University. … During this deeply distressing time, we must condemn antisemitism unequivocally and support every member of our community.”

Another video posted on X this week shows a student tearing down the posters Nov. 1 at the University of Pittsburgh.

Logan Dubil told The College Fix “the student tore down an entire poll’s worth of posters.”

Dubil, a student reporter for The College Fix, said via email the student is part of the LGBTQ campus community and protests “anything that conservative/Jewish students do on campus.”
