A missing NYU student was found over the weekend–in the most unlikely of places.
Wedged in a crawlspace only 2 feet wide, 19-year-old Asher Vongtau was found Sunday evening after he had been reported missing by friends.
Vongtau, a Nigerian native, was called “the luckiest kid alive” by an NYC fire department spokesman.
Vongtau told police that he stumbled and fell into the narrow space between two buildings after a night of drinking.
Rescuers had to break through concrete blocks to extract the student.
A friend of Vongtau criticized the NYU public safety department, saying it didn’t do enough to try to find Vongaut during the first hours he was reported missing.
If it hadn’t been for his friends’ efforts to push forward with a search, “He’d be dead right now,” fellow student Michael Yabon told the New York Post.
