Libertarians swing both ways when it comes to political parties, and they are hoping to take advantage of the massive campus depression caused by Republican Donald Trump’s election.
Students for Liberty released an open letter to College Democrats chapters that offers them “grants, training, activism resources” and networking opportunities for spreading pro-liberty ideas that align with the political left.
Those issues of common interest include immigration reform and “refugee rights,” police brutality, antiwar and anti-War on Drugs activism, criminal justice reform and freedom of expression, although SFL only links to developed statements on three of those issues.
The group offered the same assistance to College Republicans chapters that didn’t like Trump three weeks ago, when the Republican’s election looked unlikely.
As with the Republicans, the group reassured College Democrats they could use SFL resources without endangering their status, drawing “the support they need to act on their frustrations following the election”:
We’ll never subject you to a purity test or demand allegiance to any particular candidate or approach. As long as your message is pro-liberty, we’re more than happy to help.
