‘Let Resistance ring’: Professor writes anti-Trump inaugural anthem

U. Washington professor says ‘Deplore Indecency,’ ‘Restore Democracy’

A University of Washington professor emeritus has written a “Resistance Anthem for the Trump Inauguration” that laments “lost Liberty” and the “Hate and Venality” of the Republican leader and his supporters.

Written to the tune of “America,” Professor Emeritus Michael Perlman’s song calls for “resistance” from the American people, according to KTTH 770 Conservative Talk Radio.

“Virtue and Honor died,/Gone is the Pilgrims’ Pride,/Integrity is cast aside,/Let Resistance ring,” it continues.

Perlman, who taught statistics at the public Washington university, shared his re-write of the patriotic song on a listserv of the university’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors, according to the report.

The lyrics continue:

Hate and Venality
Destroy Morality,
Sadly we sing.
The Vein of Fear is tapped,
The Well of Truth is capped,
Our Nation’s Strength is sapped,
Let Resistance ring.
They mock the Handicapped,
Let Resistance ring.

Noble and faithful ones,
Our march has just begun,
Proudly we sing:
Deplore Indecency,
Abhor Dishonesty,
Restore Democracy,
Let Resistance ring.
With Hands and Hearts untied,
Let Resistance ring.
From ev’ry Mountainside,
Let Resistance ring!

In Trump’s inaugural address Monday, he promised to “end the government policy of trying to socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life.

“We will forge a society that is colorblind and merit-based,” Trump said.

Meanwhile, some institutions and student groups offered ways to deal with the “anxiety” surrounding the 45th president’s second term, The College Fix reported.
