Kent State professor with alleged ISIS ties also made sex jokes in class, student reviews claim

Kent State University Prof. Julio Pino, the Cuban-born convert to Islam who has spoken repeatedly in favor of jihad and is under FBI investigation for alleged Islamic State ties, also has a ribald side.

According to anonymous student reviews of a Pino class obtained by the Akron Beacon Journal, Pino has very poor taste in japery:

“Professor Pino was a knowledgeable professor, but his sexual ‘jokes’ were not appreciated and offensive,” wrote a student in his spring 2015 class on the history of the modern world. …

“No respect shown when he talks about being high and drunk and raping little girls,” one student wrote.

Another student made almost identical complaints.

“No professionalism at all considering every class he mentioned how he was going to get high and drunk and find 18-year-old girls to have sexual relations with,” the student said.

Others warned the “jokes” were not amusing.

“Be careful what you say. A lot of people become offended by your ‘jokes,’ especially with sexual jokes,” the student wrote. “They aren’t funny.”

Pino categorically denied ever saying such things, telling the Beacon Journal the reviews were “fabrications and falsifications,” though as the paper notes, Pino’s sense of humor is curious:

Last week, he said posts on his social media profiles that were meant to be entertaining were misinterpreted. In a comment on one photo of what appears to be masked insurgents wielding assault rifles in a desert, Pino wrote: “Keep it a secret: that’s me on the left!”

Kent State told the paper it’s investigating the student-review allegations.
