UPDATE (1:41 p.m.): President Carter was hospitalized this morning in Cleveland.

The George Washington University chapter of Young America’s Foundation will protest former President Jimmy Carter’s speaking appearance at GW on Wednesday.

“GWYAF members oppose many of President Carter’s past and present policies, specifically his stances on Israel, his hypocrisy regarding human rights, and his anti-American view of the fall of the Berlin Wall,” the group said in a press release, according to the GW Hatchet.

Carter will be on campus promoting his new memoir, “White House Diary.”

“It is important for students to look back upon the mistakes of the past so we don’t repeat them again,” GWYAF President Travis Korson said in the press release. “I also find it very disappointing that GW, a school with a large Jewish population has decided to host such an anti-Israel speaker.”

Carter met with Hamas officials in 2008, at which point then-Sen. Obama derided the decision, because prior to the meeting, Hamas did not agree to renounce terrorism or to recognize Israel. During that trip, Carter laid a wreath at the grave of Yassar Arafat. Last year, he told NBC Hamas could be trusted.

Recently, Carter drew headlines over remarks about his post-presidential career in an interview with Brian Williams.

“I feel that my role as a former president is probably superior to that of other presidents,” he said. “Primarily because of the activism and the — and the injection of working at the Carter Center and in international affairs, and to some degree, domestic affairs, on energy conservation, on — on environment, and things of that kind.”
