NBC Washington today reported that Kye Allums, a guard for the GW women’s basketball team, will be the first transgender athlete to compete in NCAA Division I competition.
Allums, who is transitioning from female to male, is free to continue playing for the women’s team as long as he doesn’t under go any hormone therapy.
Allums will undergo a gender reassignment surgery before 2011, and start hormone therapy once his playing days are over in 2012.
