George Mason and Johns Hopkins universities are the latest colleges to allow young men and women to live together in the same dorm room.
So-called gender-neutral housing has swept the nation, with public and private colleges offering such arrangements under the guise that it provides a safety net of sorts for the homosexual student community. It also allows heterosexual students in relationships to shack up.
According to The Washington Post, roughly 150 campuses offer opposite-sex housing options.
Demere Woolway, Director of LGBTQ Life at Johns Hopkins, wrote in an email to The News-Letter that such housing offers “safe and inclusive housing that supports the needs of Hopkins students.”
