Fighting Sioux Fight Is Over, Again, For Good, Again

A federal judge threw out a lawsuit filed by six Native American students at the University of North Dakota. According to The Chronicle of Higher Education:

The students had argued that the use of the moniker had created a hostile environment on the campus. But the judge ruled that their claims were moot since the state had made clear its intent to retire the nickname.

It’s beating a dead horse to say so again, but the Fighting Sioux controversy is absolutely over. Because of NCAA pressure, the nickname can no longer be used, despite its relative inoffensiveness to the Sioux Tribe.
