Details are emerging this morning on a shooting spree at Florida State University last night that left three wounded and the shooter dead.
The gunman, Myron May, was a lawyer who graduated from the school, and he was fatally shot early Thursday by police after he shot three students in Florida State’s library, several news agencies report.
The incident took place around 12:30 a.m., causing a panic in the library that sent students studying for exams before the Thanksgiving break scrambling. When law enforcement confronted May and ordered him to drop his weapon, he shot at them and they opened fire, killing him.
Police and FSU administrators have said the shooting is an “isolated incident.”
The shooter was identified as May, an FSU alumnus and an attorney who received his law degree from Texas Tech, according to The Associated Press.
As for his victims, “hospital officials say one of the students is in critical condition, the other is fair. A third student was ‘grazed’ by a bullet and treated at the scene,” the Miami Herald reports, adding students gathered for prayer and reflection in a vigil this morning, and classes have been cancelled today.
