Oliver Darcy of Campus Reform reports on a disturbing case of speech suppression at Biola University–a private, Christian university in Southern California.
A video posted to YouTube on Monday depicts an armed security official ordering a student off Biola University’s campus for displaying a graphic pro-life sign in a public area…
[The security official] then threatened to prevent her from attending her graduation ceremony the following week.
“I’m telling you here,” he said. “You are supposed to graduate next week. If I kick you off this campus, you cannot graduate. If I tell you you can’t have a physical presence on this campus, you can’t come in here.”
When I read a story like this, I’m amazed. First, that any university would think they can get away with obliterating a student’s free speech rights. Second, that a Christian university would be the one to do so, in this, a case of a pro-life student trying to express her views publicly.
