Children Told to ‘Burn in Hell’ for Singing God Bless the USA

We’ve all heard that liberals are kinder, gentler, more reasonable and compassionate than conservatives. It’s times like these that make us wonder how that idea ever got started. The Young America’s Foundation reports an despicable story from Coney Island, NY–where recently a bunch of school children were condemned to eternal damnation by protestors who were upset that they were singing a patriotic song. We had to read it twice to make sure our eyes weren’t betraying us:

It seems implausible that adults would yell at kindergarten children singing “God Bless the USA” outside a public school, right? Except yesterday in Coney Island, NY, that is exactly what happened.

Young children singing Lee Greenwood’s hit “God Bless the USA” were drowned out by angry adults who told the organizers of the event that they were going to “burn in hell.”

The story gets even more incredible when you consider the song the school’s principal chose to try to replace the controversial “God Bless the USA.”

The controversy began earlier this month when Principal Greta Hawkins of Public School 90 decided to pull “God Bless the USA” from a kindergarten “moving up” ceremony, replacing it with Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” Instead of the 6 to 7 year olds singing lines such as “I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free,” they would now be singing the age-inappropriate lines “She had me going crazy, oh I was starstruck, she woke me up daily, don’t need no Starbucks.”

The principal’s reason for the change in songs? She “didn’t want to offend other cultures.”

She didn’t want to offend other cultures? Apparently “other cultures” doesn’t include religious Americans or patriotic Americans. What’s more offensive here–singing “God Bless the USA?” or telling a bunch of patriotic school children to “burn in hell”?
