Campus Blowdart Bandit Apologizes For Attacks

Well here’s something you don’t read about everyday.

The University Herald reports that an 18-year-old Washington State University student was arrested last week after he shot four people with blow darts, with at least one victim on the school’s campus.

Student Joseph Gillies has since apologized in court, calling himself “a moron.” He faces up to five years in prison.

According to KREM-TV … police arrested him Wednesday aided by tips and surveillance footage. Gillies was accused of shooting a woman with a blow dart on WSU’s campus in Pullman, Wash., as well as several other similar attacks. …

“I’m sorry it’s a huge regret,” Gillies told KREM. “It’s going to stick with me for the rest of my life. It’s childish. It’s immature. It’s ridiculous.”

Pullman Police responded Jan. 12 to a report of a young woman on WSU’s campus who was shot with a strange dart. They believed it came from a certain type of blow dart gun because it punctured her stomach through two layers of clothing. She did not need medical attention.

Two days later, police responded to another attack, this one with a blow dart sinking one-half inch into a man’s back. The dart matched the one from the attack on Jan. 12 and, shortly after, police learned of other similar attacks in Ellensburg.
