The Texas A&M University’s Student Senate recently unanimously approved an “I Love America” resolution praising the Founding Fathers and the U.S. Constitution and calling on future generations to protect, defend and preserve the freedoms enjoyed in the United States.
“The founding fathers of the United States, through the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution, established a framework of government rooted in individual liberty, personal responsibility, and a deep commitment to limited government and the rule of law,” the resolution states in part.
“The preservation of these founding principles depends on the development of informed, patriotic citizens who are prepared to defend the Constitution, uphold traditional values, and contribute to the stability and security of our Republic,” it adds.
The resolution was approved Nov. 6, said student Eli Purtell, the speaker pro tempore. He told The College Fix via email Wednesday that the resolution was passed via general consent, “meaning none of the senators in the room objected to its passing,” he said.
It was first reported on Wednesday by the Heterodox STEM Substack. University of Chicago Professor Dorian Abbot cited the resolution as proof most young people “are normal, hard-working kids.”
“It is an expression of what all of us know to be true, but are being bullied out of expressing,” Abbot said of the resolution. “So I say lay off the kids. They can see how stupid Wokeness is just like the rest of us, and if we give them some support, hopefully they will be increasingly willing to say so out loud.”
The resolution was put forth in support of Texas A&M’s “Citizenship Initiative.”
“As Aggies, we are bound by a code of honor and integrity that reflects the highest ideals of American citizenship—faith in God, devotion to country, and the courage to defend the values that have made our nation great,” the resolution states.
“The words of Ronald Reagan still ring true today: ‘Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction,’ reminding us that each generation of Americans must take an active role in preserving the freedoms that are the bedrock of our Republic.”
