Settling a December lawsuit brought by the Alliance Defending Freedom on behalf of Young Americans for Liberty, the University of Michigan will stop singling out YAL for its views when it comes to funding campus groups with student activity fees.
ADF sued the school after officials denied funding to YAL, claiming that it doesn’t fund “political” events. But the school has funded other groups whose speech involves “immigrants rights, affirmative action, and Islam” among other political subjects, ADF said in a press release Wednesday.
The university last week paid YAL $5,000 in damages and ADF $9,000 in legal costs. The settlement is dated June 16 but only publicized by ADF Wednesday.
