Biden drops plan to ban flexible online learning for trade programs

OPINION: Biden’s decision is a victory for flexibility in education necessary frontline workers

President Joe Biden’s administration will no longer try to ban asynchronous learning for trade programs and career certificates.

The Biden administration is wrapping up remaining regulations in the final several weeks before President Donald Trump returns to the White House.

It recently announced that while the Department of Education will collect more information on distance education, it will allow schools to use asynchronous learning, in contradiction to a proposed rule.

The rule would have banned the learning for “clock hour programs” – these differ from a traditional college class that is based on credit hours.

“However, we remind institutions that asynchronous clock hours cannot be used for homework and that there must be robust verification of regular and substantive interaction with an instructor,” the Education Department wrote in its news release.

The rule would have affected frontline workers, such as emergency medical technicians and nursing assistants, as well as hairstylists and other jobs.

The decision is a victory for the American workforce. Of course, some jobs require hands-on-training, as previously noted in The College Fix.

First aid must be done in-person to get the actual feel of how to apply pressure or carry an injured person. But content such as laws, regulations, and terminology can be done online.

Notably, the Dept. of Ed. did not plan to prohibit traditional colleges from using asynchronous learning.

The administration has also withdrawn several other bad ideas, such as letting men play in girls’ sports and pushing forward another massive student loan bailout that could have cost $600 billion.

This was not done out of a change of heart but rather done strategically to make it harder for President Trump to replace the regulations in his own vision.

Biden’s legacy in office consists of a syllabus of errors, including sending federal law enforcement after peaceful pro-life dads, spying on Latin Mass parishes, and ordering surveillance of parents and other citizens concerned about school curriculum.

He pushed for the unscientific and immoral mutilation of minors confused about their gender and also supported allowing men into girls’ locker rooms and bathrooms.

But in choosing to withdraw this awful idea, he made the right choice.
