Baruch College anti-Israel protest features AK-47 image, call to ‘bring the war home’

Baruch College SJP also used assault rifle images in recruitment materials as organizers tout ‘militant resistance to imperialism’

Anti-Israel protesters recently converged alongside Baruch College in New York City, hoisting a large banner that stated “Bring the war home” with an AK-47 painted above it, an image posted to social media shows.

Demonstrators also carried a sign stating “Hillel go to hell,” which also included “an inverted red triangle, a symbol the Hamas terror group uses to identify targets in propaganda videos,” NY Jewish Week reported.

The Saturday protest drew about a dozen people and took place in a plaza across from Baruch, NY Jewish Week reported, adding: “In the images, the activists wear keffiyehs and their faces are blurred. It was unclear how many of them were Baruch students.”

A joint post on Instagram by Baruch’s Students for Justice in Palestine and NYC Revolutionary Youth stated the “protest at Baruch College [was] for cops off campus and to remind CUNY admin that business will not go as usual this upcoming fall semester. To get organized and involved in the construction of militant resistance to imperialism in all its manifestations join the NYC Revolutionary Youth.”

A statement provided to NY Jewish Week by a campus spokesperson read: “Baruch is appalled by the language used at a protest on Saturday on a public plaza near our campus and condemns all speech that is designed to harass and intimidate others. NYPD and our public safety officers were on-site to ensure the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. Baruch remains steadfast in its commitment to a respectful and inclusive campus environment for every student.”

Baruch’s Students for Justice in Palestine Instagram account also features two assault rifles on a post seeking recruits.

What’s more, “Student groups across CUNY, including from John Jay, CUNY Law and Queens College, signed onto a ‘call to action’ this week, urging protests across the massive university system as the school year begins,” NY Jewish Week reported.

Baruch appears to have a large contingent of pro-Palestinian protesters. In June, a demonstration there also targeted Hillel, the Times of Israel reported:

The protesters carried a banner that said “It is right to rebel, Hillel go to hell,” with an inverted red triangle on it, which has come to signify support for Hamas on social media because the terror group uses the symbol in videos of its attacks. The student demonstrators repeatedly formed inverted triangles with their hands, flashing the symbol at the counter-protesters. Another protester brandished a banner that had a swastika inside a Star of David while shouting: “Synagogue of Satan.

Saturday’s protest comes as a new poll found 44 percent of college students and recent grads “rarely” or “never” feel safe identifying as Jewish on campus, the New York Post reported.
