The ‘peace, tolerance, and love’ folks are charlatans
A new survey shows that over half of self-identified progressives believe “at least somewhat” that killing President Trump is a justifiable action.
The report by the Network Contagion Research Institute and Rutgers University Social Perception Lab notes that after the first Trump assassination attempt last July, “tolerance – and even advocacy – for political violence appears to have surged, especially among politically left-leaning segments of the population.”
“Widespread justification for lethal violence,” in particular by “highly online” young leftists, also appears triggered by the killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson by Luigi Mangione.
The College Fix reported on several instances of academics praising the Trump assassination attempt, such as (ironically) the Rutgers professor who wrote “Let’s hope today’s events inspire others” and “They shot his wig. Sad.”
A Bellarmine University professor had posted “If you’re gonna shoot, man, don’t miss,” while another from the University of British Columbia wrote “Damn, so close. Too bad” and “reeeeally wished the [shooter] had better aim.”
Specific findings of the report include:
— Almost 50 percent of “left-of-center” respondents said murdering Elon Musk was at least “partially justifiable.”
— Over 57 percent agreed at least somewhat that destruction of Tesla dealerships is a legitimate action.
— The “strongest predictors” of violence towards Musk are “far-left political identity” and “left-wing authoritarianism.”
— Time spent on the social media platform BlueSky also is a “significant predictor” of justifying violence.
Ironically, as noted by The Federalist, a reason for moving to BlueSky was the “hate speech,” “misinformation,” and “extremism” on Musk’s X (formerly Twitter).
MORE: Progressives are lying when they say political differences should be ‘valued’
The Daily Targum, Rutgers’ student paper, has yet to report on the study, which came out April 7. (It did, however, report on a discussion regarding the “constitutional crisis” the U.S. allegedly now faces.)
A recent example of the mindset described in the survey comes from Michigan where a public school teacher claimed (in front of several polychromatic-haired spectators) that the “fascist” Trump administration has committed crimes, that Elon Musk is an illegal immigrant (he tweeted shortly before the election Musk is the only illegal who should be deported), and wished that a political opponent of the mayor would “choke on a bag of dicks and die.”
The New York Post reports a social studies teacher named Steve Swieciki, a Democratic Socialists of America United Federation of Teachers office candidate, had reposted a meme of Luigi Mangione with the caption “Make bad people feel unsafe” and hashtag “#FreeLuigi.”
And notice how leftist politicians are mum about the vandalism of Teslas across the country … and the violence incurred by the vehicle’s dealerships? The mainstream media, which routinely demands GOP politicians speak out against right-wing violence and hate speech, are now largely silent.
Even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer refused to condemn violence against Tesla when asked by an independent reporter … but he did manage to say Elon Musk is “a disaster for America.”
Is it any wonder why Schumer and his liberal colleagues had to resort to the insane hyperbole that the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot was the greatest threat the Republic faced since the Civil War? Or why concerned parents at school board meetings were under consideration by the previous administration for a “domestic terrorist” label?
It’s because progressives believe their violence and uproarious behavior is good. Everyone else’s is as cataclysmic as the Big Bang.
