After crashing his motorcycle on Sunday, Arkansas Head Football Coach Bobby Petrino’s life came screeching to a halt in a pile of dirt and tree limbs on the side of the road. There was a passenger riding on the motorcycle with him — a 25-year-old female staff member, former student, and Arkansas volleyball player. Petrino, 51, had recently hired the young woman as student athlete coordinator for the football team.
Petrino did not initially divulge the presence of the female passenger to the media. Her involvement in the crash became news after the police report was released to the public.
“In hindsight, I showed a serious mistake in judgment when I chose not to be more specific about those details,” Petrino said Thursday in a statement. The coach has been put on paid administrative leave. He said he hopes to repair relationships with his family and the university and to remain coach of the Razorbacks.
