OPINION: The message from academia is clear — the world would be a better place without Trump
Two years ago, a Penn State University professor said on Twitter that former President Donald Trump “Should’ve been Lincoln’d.”
He got his wish, sort of, when a would-be assassin’s bullet ripped through Trump’s ear during a reelection campaign stop in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Trump survived. How many academics out there wish it had gone another way?
The question is not outlandish. For the last eight-plus years, the constant drumbeat from higher education scholars is that Donald J. Trump is scum of the Earth. Yes, The College Fix has receipts (see below).
He’s been called a “super villain,” “racist,” “bigot,” and “fascist.” He’s been blamed for genocide, mass murders, and the rise of racism and white supremacy. Heck one Duke University scholar even argued Trump is worse than Hitler, Stalin and Mao.
His supporters have also been tossed in as culprits. Who can forget when one professor tweeted “more of this please” at news of the death of a Trump supporter?
The message from academia is clear — the world would be a better place without Trump.
The reality is the world was better under Trump: Inflation was under control and the economy and businesses thrived. The border was secure. It was a time of global peace. But most professors used the time to demonize Trump over and over.
Calls to tone down the rhetoric have gone out from both sides in the wake of the assassination attempt. The College Fix will continue to keep an eye on campuses to see if scholars stop using hyperbole and personal attacks to demonize a man they hate.
