Student body representatives are going for broke at Ohio University, demanding the administration more than double the minimum wage on campus to $15, cut off pay raises to administrators making more than $200,000 and provide “more transparency” about the school’s endowment, The Post reports:
Though OU administrators and local economists — and even some senate members — have said the [wage and tuition] proposals were outlandish, senate as a whole stuck by its proposal.
Senate member Will Klatt, the government affairs commissioner, stands by the demands outlined in the resolution, saying that “it’s the status quo that’s unrealistic” — not senate’s ideas.
Senate members also want a tuition freeze starting next school year and they’re starting a “campaign” to pressure administrators:
“I think this is the point where we start moving forward on an actual campaign,” [Vice President Caitlyn McDaniel] said. “We’re definitely not just going to be sitting around for the next week. For me, at least personally, I’m going to be working really hard to get together like a solid plan.”
And because it wouldn’t be a student senate resolution without them, fossil-fuel divestment and support for something called “F–k Rape Culture” were included.
In a surprising development, no “blood bucket” challenges or arrests were made.
