Diversity activists at Stanford apparently wanted someone like black transgender actor Laverne Cox as their next president, because they planned to protest the new guy precisely because he’s a guy who identifies as a guy.
The Stanford Review posted a leaked email by protest group Who’s Teaching Us? – marked “CANNOT BE MADE PUBLIC” – that disclosed its “sensitive” plans to spoil the inauguration ceremonies today for incoming President Marc Tessier-Lavigne, a first-generation college graduate who happens to be white and biologically/psychologically male:
We especially need as many people as possible for (1) because we need a mass of people inside inauguration, so if you have folks willing to wake up early to send a message to the president, please let us know.

Who’s Teaching Us? was formed after Stanford rejected a “queer Asian American scholar” for tenure in 2014, and the group claims Stanford “continues to perpetuate racial injustice,” apparently because classrooms are “dominated by white professors and Western focused curricula” with “culturally irrelevant pedagogy.”
It released six pages of demands this spring, one of which was that the next president and provost must “break both the legacy of white leadership and cisgender male leadership.”

As noted by the Review, the Stanford Political Journal agreed that Stanford had no excuse for not hiring someone from a pool of “non-white or non-male individuals,” condemning the school for choosing a white male – despite praising Tessier-Lavigne for his “impressive record as an academic” and “valuable contributions to Alzheimer’s research.”
